Ask the community about a product, service, wiki program that seems sketchy, and see if anyone has any insight. D in "quantum mathematics" and a " pages" formula to measure distance in space without the use of light? This had been cross-posted on Skeptics SE. I stumbled upon the Wikipedia page of Manahel Thabet recently. Here are some extracts from the Wikipedia page. The formula was considered ground breaking in the field of quantum mathematics and is pages of numbers, calculations, and equations. A google search would suggest that she is quite popular in some circles and she has 50k followers on Twitter. But are things written on her Wikiepdia page facts? As a student of mathematics, I've never heard of the phase "quantum mathematics" being an actual term to describe the branches of mathematics used in quantum mechanics, or the study of mathematical objects coined with phases begin with "quantum" such as quantum group. Thus I find it strange for one to "major in quantum mathematics". Or perhaps I am just ignorant. So I went on looking for the papers she published. I was particularly wiki in the methodology she devised for measuring distance which involves a " pages" formula. Here is an article on gulfnews. Determining distances in space is a technical phenomenon; astronomers are trying to come up with a correct way to do it. It is not easy for most of us to imagine the truly immense scale of the universe. Distances in the space are vast from one celestial thabet to another; for instance, it takes a light signal The fact that light travels times faster than any fastest rockets renders human beings unable to reach to some planets even if they travelled their entire lifetime. To determine space distance, several methods with different variations are used or have been proposed. These methods, unfortunately, have faults. In this research, I clearly explain several of these methods and their faults and errors. We will also observe the universe as being three-dimensional and flat as explained in Euclidean: Euclidean means that all the geometry wiki lines that are taught in mathematics and physics properties applies. Measuring distance from earth to celestial bodies like star, sun and moon help astronauts to determine the size of the universe; also it helps to estimate the age of universe. Therefore wiki is important to use correct methods in estimating space distance. This appears to be more of an article for layman audiences. It brought up the standard candle approach for measuring cosmological distances page 18 without discussing it extensively. And the expanding photosphere method EPM was not even mentioned. It does not seem to be the paper I was looking for. But this was all I could find after numerous Google searches. I could find neither the allegedly groundbreaking formula, nor any solid evidence that it actually exists. But is it true that she wrote a " pages" formula to measures distance in space without the use of light? If so, where is it published and how can one find it? D in "quantum mathematics"? I couldn't find any information regarding that either. Since you posted this, the page has been proposed for deletion. Pretty much all the rest of the actual content thabet written by another new account, and the rest of the edits are just other editors and bots trying to clean up the mess. Interestingly, she was allegedly the vice chancellor of The Gifted Academy together with Tony Buzanan author of various self-help books on improving one's memory, as the dean, and Dominic O'Brien as one of the trainers, who has also written a couple of memory-related books. Either the website is fake and this institute does not exist, or we are just at the tip of the iceberg, in which case I wonder how deep the rabbit hole goes. So I ventured a short distance down the rabbit hole, and I think I understand what's going on. She runs a business strategy consultancy called Smart Tipsand presents herself as an internationally famous polymath as a way of promoting it. She does this by collecting various honours that sound more impressive than they really are. Having a "quantum mathematics" paper published on a non-peer reviewed online repository is one such honour. Her Twitter feed is full of examples. A former grandmaster who can most certainly be bought calls her "a very brilliant and cunning opponent" with a "natural talent for chess". He regularly re-tweets things she has posted. She posts a picture of herself recieving a medal from phony Polish nobility the crooked grandmaster has one too. A paper of hers is in the top ten papers in a mathematics category on SSRNbut there are only 47 papers in that categoryand that paper's abstract appears to be total nonsense unlike the abstract to "Measuring Distances in Space", which is merely hopelessly vague. There is much more, but it's enough to convince me that the scientific papers are low-efforts publications created as part of a campaign of self-promotion. Oh, here's a good one! She implies she is a Fellow of the Royal Society and includes the Royal Society's twitter handle. She's manahel standing in the library of the Royal Society of Medicinewhich has some 22, members and is never shortened to "Royal Society". Thabet to be the recipient thabet White Swan Royal Grand officer Manahel I. Deeply honoured-I have been offered position of Officer of the Companionate of The White Swan by His Serene Highness Prince Marek Kasperski. What a lovely email to thabet the day with. My research paper was ranked in top 10 download list for Mathematics: This message was created by a bot. God I hope it gets deleted. I proposed it's deletion. I fucking earned my PhD in quantum information and it pisses me off wiki see her waving around fake credentials like she's hot shit. Checked out one of her papers. It's pretty awful and I'm sure most of it is copied from undergrad text books. I don't have domain knowledge on astronomy or quantum physics, so I can't judge whether or not her methodology is legit and it seems there is nothing to judge anyways. However, I can judge whether or not these claims seem realistic based on the nature of academic research. I have peer-reviewed research in the field of mathematics specifically machine learningso I know how the process goes. I also know what getting a PhD and doing PhD research entails, as that is a career path I seriously considered for years. First wiki all, when you pursue a PhD you don't have a "major", you have a "field". A major is a fairly broad area, like Biology or Sociology that you dive into and learn about from various perspectives. When you get a Bachelor's, you have a major. For example, I wiki in math, but if I had gotten a PhD, I would have done it in the field of Ranking Theory. The manahel terminology would be to say "I got a PhD in Ranking Theory" or "I do research in the field of Ranking Theory", with a less common wiki usually used to describe your degree to laymen being "I got a PhD in math", and never "I got a PhD, and my major was math. Second, formulas aren't that long. Papers especially a PhD thesis can be that long, but "formulas" are not. There are many reasons for thabet, most of which involve the simple fact that mathematical notation by nature is concise. Additionally, introducing new and novel concepts, such as being able to "measure distance without light", are usually created by providing a completely new technique, like something people have never thought of before, not as extremely long calculations. Long "formulas" are usually what little kids thing complicated math is about, but it is completely the wrong idea. On that note, a PhD thesis is usually hundreds of pages long, and includes many different thabet, such as a literature review, discussion of past research, and discussion of your own research which should contain multiple publications by the time you write your thesis. In manahel words, your thesis isn't "one" paper, it's an amalgamation of several years of research that discusses said research and its foundation, including the impact your research has on the scientific community and potential further areas of extending the research. I would better describe a PhD thesis almost as being like an autobiographical textbook. Furthermore, if she had actually gotten manahel PhD, her thabet would have been published in a peer-reviewed journal, and as stated it would be hundreds of pages long, she would have a known research advisor to trace it back manahel, and by the very nature of academic research it would be heavily documented and easily searchable. This isn't to say it would be "popular" or anything like that, as most PhD theses are published, cited a couple times, and then basically forgotten about, but they are damn easy to look up. Because of these reasons, it seems extremely likely this is all just a sham. At the very least, the person who wrote her Wikipedia page clearly does not understand the nature of a PhD or how academic research works, so that information is certainly suspect. Also, the paper you linked to is not published in a peer-reviewed journal and the abstract seems simplistic for something written by a PhD candidate. It gives off the impression of being more like a senior thesis Bachelor's degree rather than a PhD thesis. A decent amount of her discussions about the standard theories are pretty decent if vaguebut she doesn't demonstrate a deep manahel of any of these topics, and her justifications for disregarding the standard methods are pretty weak. So yes, it's bollocks. I've been following this fraudster for some time: Latest claims she has made: A few hours after you posted, someone went and found several links showing how this person's papers and other honors were bought, most likely in an attempt to promote their services. If you follow any of the above thabet, respect the rules of reddit and don't vote. Science is relatively simple or at least not that complicated. Now, when we learn a wiki theory that manahel we'll likely find it being very poetic. But first, we need to improve our math IMO that's why we have not figured it out yet even with great minds working on it.
